Cult of Mac is reporting on a rumour coming out of supply chains in Taiwan that the new iPhone could contain a new capacitive touch home button that incorporates a fingerprint sensor. The report states:

“Apple is expected to do away with the traditional physical home button, which has long been one of the most unreliable components on iOS devices. It’s thought that using sapphire crystal, which has a hardness second only to diamond, will prevent the button from getting scratched and ruining the fingerprint sensor.”

I think this would be a good move by Apple, as if they also built in Near Field Communication, your iPhone could become a replacement for the hundreds of passwords we all try to remember online. Instead of typing your password, you could simply have you iPhone authenticate you for a website with your fingerprint. Apple could also launch this functionality using Bluetooth to make it more compatible with their current lineup.

The ad ends with ““Every day, more photos are taken with the iPhone than any other camera.”

Apple announces WWDC 2013

WWDC 2013 Logo

It’s been a long time since Apple has taken to the stage to introduce to us to new products and with Tim Cook saying that they have some great stuff to show us in the Fall and into 2014 we can expect to wait for any new hardware refreshes until at least August.

Well at least we all have a date for WWDC now that Apple has set it for June 10.

The new logo for this year’s event is also a departure for Apple with them abandoning their traditional Myriad font for an updated flatter one – perhaps an indication of a new design direction we can expect to see in iOS 7.

I for one can’t wait to see iOS 7, as my predictions are that Sir Johnny Ive is going to give it quite a new visual direction – it’s hard not to admit that the current UI is feeling tired.
